Second Change Beer Company says their brews are inspired by their own preferences and tastes, which has lead to a string of recognized successes for the brewery over the last two years since they opened. They continually win awards and establish themselves as a powerful force in the local (and crowded!) San Diego craft brewing community.

Most recently, Second Chance Beer Company took home two medals from the Great American Beer Festival. Their Tabula Rasa Toasted Porter took home the gold medal in the Robust Porter Category, which had 97 entries. Their Legally Red won a Silver medal for American Style Amber/Red Ale, out of 90 entries. Bringing home two medals after being open for only a couple years speaks volumes about the passion for craft beer Second Chance’s team has, as well as the potential for great things to come.

More Than an Award-Winning Craft Brewery

There are more than accolades to appreciate about Second Chance Beer Company. Their taproom and brewery in Carmel Mountain has 13 beers on tap right now, including the award-winning Tabula Rasa and Legally Red (actually a red IPA). You can also try one of three other IPAs, saison/farmhouse ales and a gose brewed with pink sea salt and coriander.

If you can’t commit to just one beer, you’re in luck! You can enjoy a flight with samples of four of their beers for just $7. The environment in the taproom is fun and casual. You can enjoy a game of cornhole or darts, or sit at a table and talk with friends or new acquaintances. If you have a four-legged friend, you can bring him or her along for the fun. While there isn’t a kitchen at the taphouse, they do make arrangements with local food trucks for almost every day they are open.

New Location in North Park!

Don’t want to head up to North County to partake in freshly poured Second Chance? No problem! Check out their new location in North Park at 4045 30 St (map), across the street (and slightly north) from Toronado. The addition of this new location makes 30th St. in North Park arguably the best, and definitely most walk-able, destination for craft beer in San Diego.

The new location in North Park is located in the ground level of a newly built building, and maintains an online tap list here. The open floor plan and large garage doors give a welcome and very San Diego vibe to the place. Although they don’t serve food, there’s more than a few options nearby to grab a snack before enjoying a pint of Porter. Cheers!
