For four beautiful days, the U.S. Sand Sculpting Challenge & Dimensional Art Exposition will take over the Broadway Pier and Pavilion. During the Labor Day weekend, visitors can expect to see some of the most impressive, impermanent artwork in the world on display. The event requires the delivery of 300 tons of sand to the Broadway Pier. There will be a temporary beach that stretches high above the Bay and features handmade art by masters from all over the world.

For those who’ve never witnessed the creation of a massive sand sculpture in person, this event will be an unbelievable first. Those who have witnessed similar exhibits in the past will already know how special this event will be. This competition will be one of the best events of late summer in San Diego.

Food and Fun for Spectators of All Ages

With a dozen master sculptors building over the course of the weekend, as well as several championship teams, you can watch as 10 tons of sand (per sculpture) begins to take on life over the course of a long weekend. If you’re looking for something to take home, there will also be art vendors selling dimensional art products throughout the Expo. All of that excitement and shopping will probably leave you with an appetite.

You’re in luck, because there will be 13 different gourmet food trucks serving fresh food near the pier, boasting everything from burgers and fries to gelato and teriyaki bowls. Whether you want a snack, a sweet or just a few tacos, there will be a food truck serving something you crave. Sit back and enjoy a nibble while watching the competitors work or relax and listen to live music by big bands.
