San Diego has a very active local community that loves to give back. It’s no surprise, then, that so many charity 5K races take place here every year. These events build awareness of different non-profit organizations, raise funds and allow the community to support valuable non-profit organizations.

This March, people in San Diego have the chance to run a charity 5K for autism. The Race for Autism takes place on a lovely course through Balboa Park, with 100 percent of donations remaining in the local community. This year’s theme for the 5K race is “Calling All Superheroes!” You and your friends or family can dress up like your favorite superhero to participate. Costumes are optional, but they do encourage people to dress up as any character they enjoy, so long as it isn’t scary.

Have Fun While Fundraising for a Local Charity

The National Foundation for Autism Research is a well-liked and well-regarded autism charity that does a lot for the San Diego community. This local charity helps to fund hundreds of programs and services for autistic people in San Diego, as well as their families. They also offer technical training and special grants for teachers, as well as support groups and community events.

People who want to support the National Foundation for Autism Research can simply enter the race. Those who are very motivated can build a team and do additional fundraising. Building a team and gathering donations from your friends and family will certainly have you feel like you’ve earned that cape as you trot through the park.

Save Money with Early Registration for the Race

This event is fully inclusive. Even people who can’t attend can purchase a Race From Home kit, which includes a mailed bib and shirt, for just $40. Children under the age of 3 can participate for free, without receiving the goodies older kids will get. Children between ages four and 12 can register ahead of time for $28 or $30 the day of the race. They will receive a child-sized cape and a commemorative medal, as well as a runner’s bib.

Teens (ages 13 to 17) can pre-register for $33 or $35 the day of the event, while adult registration costs $38 ahead of time or $40 the day of the race. You can register online ahead of time by clicking here. Register and support people with autism, as well as their families, across San Diego!
