San Diego has many resources for those who appreciate fine arts. One of the best, unquestionably, is the San Diego Museum of Art. Located in the beautiful and expansive Balboa Park, this museum has impressive art collections and unique exhibitions throughout the year. At the end of April, the museum will host the Art Alive 2018 event.

The 2018 Art Alive event will be the 37th annual celebration of art and flowers. This unique event involves masterful manipulation of flowers to recreate beloved works of art. There are additional events that focus on flowers and fine art during this extended weekend celebration of spring and beauty! Art Alive is just one of many unique events in Balboa Park during the warmer months.

Your Favorite Works of Art as You’ve Never Seen Them Before

It takes a special gift for sight and planning to create floral interpretations of great works of art. In order to provide more than 100 options for the public to enjoy, the San Diego Museum of Art collaborates with local and national designers who are at the top of their field. Thursday, April 26, will kick off this celebration with the Premiere Dinner, which is already sold out. The dinner will also serve as a kickoff party for the upcoming exhibition “Nancy Lorenz: Moon Gold.” Thankfully, you can still see all the amazing floral art.

The Museum will include entry into the Art Alive event as part of your paid admission over the last weekend in April. The John M. and Sally B. Thornton Rotunda will be transformed into a massive floral installation by Natasha Lisitsa and Daniel Schultz. There will also be dozens of other floral artworks on display. Children and families will enjoy numerous hands-on activities, including interactive options and art-making fun.

There Are Special Perks for Museum Members

Children aged seven to 17 can attend this event for only $5, while adult entry is $25 for nonmembers. Members get in for free, which is only one perk of membership. There’s also a two hour early Member’s Preview of the exhibit from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday the 27th.

Those who want to attend, members or not, should consider securing tickets online now to ensure entry to this popular spectacle! Waiting to buy tickets at the gate could mean missing out on this incredible event until next year’s Art Alive.
