With weather like San Diego’s it’s never a bad time to feast on ice cream. This is a fro-yo excluding article, focusing on that creamy and rich product ice cream parlors serve best. Surrounding the San Diego State University area I notice that the primary ice cream spots were all chains or fast food restaurants. Lets expand our taste buds and find the local businesses serving the best ice cream in town. Who is ready to find the west coast Ben and Jerry’s?

Sorbet, Ice Cream, and Baked Goods

Moosie’s Ice Cream

Considered one of the hottest ice cream spots in San Diego and a must try if in need of a frozen treat. They have you’re normal flavors and more creative ones such as Banana Walnut, Chocolate Dipped Strawberry, Taro, and Mocha Almond Fudge. If you’re not big on ice cream, dig into their sorbet flavors like their Pink Grapefruit or Strawberry. Don’t limit your order to ice cream, order a side brownie that pairs perfectly with any cold scoop or call ahead to order a specialized cake!

Mariposa Ice Cream

At Mariposa Ice Cream all their treats are homemade. They’ve been recognized by the NY Times as a must go to spot in San Diego. They’re rounding up on 17 years of existence and have spread their name through word-of-mouth. I highly recommend skipping counting calories for the day and ordering an ice cream pie. Inside the store is a walking photo album where you could spend hours looking at every picture on the wall whilst enjoying your go-to cone and scoop flavor! Check it out, bring a date or some friends and it will be an easy way to spark conversation.
